We always try and avoid jargon and abbreviations where we can help it but the title of this page would have been way too long if we hadn't abbreviated it!
CRM stands for Customer Relationship Management and is something of a buzzword in many organisations nowadays.
Put simply CRM is a system that you put in place to manage your customers, prospects and suppliers. It is more than just a database of all their contact details though.
A good CRM system should keep track of all the communications you have had with all the individuals in your database and the outcomes of those communications. Some systems also enable you to automate many of the communications that you send out by recognising certain triggers e.g. if a form is filled out on your website or sending out reminders for clients who haven't returned documents to you.
There is some very smart and relatively inexpensive technology out there for small businesses. The key is to have a very clear idea of what you need before you go shopping around.
